Here’s great news for brands and marketers on Instagram! Reels ads will now be available globally. Reels are a 30-second short-form video that imitates a TikTok clip. It was launched in July 2020. In December 2020, Instagram enabled branded content tags and shopping tags on Reels. These features paved the way for Reels ads. It was slowly rolled out in Australia, Brazil, Germany, and India. Last May, Instagram expanded the availability of Reels ads to 4 more countries – Canada, France, the UK, and the US. Today marks the global launch of Instagram Reels ads.
Reels ads are a great way to connect with Instagrammers who don’t follow an IG Page. They are pretty much the same as the formats of organic Reels. Although they have added elements like “Sponsored tags” and CTAs such as “Install Now” or “Shop Now.” Reels ads loop on regular Reels for up to 30 seconds. Viewers can comment, like, save, and share Reels ads.

Implications for Marketers:
Reels ads are a good way for marketers to reach a larger audience on Instagram. They can reach IG fans of Reels even if they don’t follow the brand’s IG profile. Encouraging existing IG followers to share Reels ads can also boost awareness and conversion.
