Facebook Introduces New Group Messaging Experience

The Facebook family of apps has gone a long, long way. They are now one of the most used messaging and social media sites. Facebook Messenger, for one, celebrated its 10th anniversary last August. Its latest Messenger API supports end-to-end encryption on video and voice calls. It even allowed emoji search and soundmojis. Today, Facebook introduces a new group messaging experience.

Instagram Messenger integration

The new group messaging experience on Facebook aims to make people more connected despite physical distances. Among its new features and tools are:

  • Cross-app messaging integration on Messenger and Instagram Direct. Such a function allows groups to chat within both apps.
  • Group Typing Indicators. It can help the participants of a group chat to feel the presence of others who are typing.
  • Messenger Polls on Instagram Direct. It will allow a group of Instagrammers to decide binge-worthy matters.
  • Watch Together on Instagram. This feature is initially available to Facebook Messenger. Today, Instagrammers can start a video chat then share a video from an IG post to initiate the “Watch Together” feature.

Facebook introduces a new group messaging experience on 30 September 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

Facebook’s new group messaging experience is an integration of the new features and tools of Messenger and Instagram Direct. This is something marketers should look forward to becoming a monetization option. As such, they can boost both engagement and revenue for a brand.
