Facebook rolls out new Messenger updates. After introducing “Login Connect” and integrating Messenger API with Instagram, here are some more enhancements to Facebook’s messaging app.
QR Codes and Payment Link
Facebook Pay now enables QR codes and payment links directly on a Facebook profile. To access them, a Facebook user needs to go to Messenger Settings and tap Facebook Pay. It will show a QR code and payment link which allow other Facebook users to scan for requesting and sending money. There’s no longer a need to add a new contact or download a separate payment app. Users can now receive and send money right within Facebook.
Quick Reply
Facebook also now enables a quick reply bar on Messenger media viewer. Previously, a Messenger user who taps on received images or videos will be directed to a large viewing screen and needs to exit it to add a reply. Today, a quick reply bar will show beneath the images or videos for the receiver to send a reply even while viewing them.
Sponsored Chat Themes
Recently, Facebook rolled out sponsored chat themes like that of Star Wars and The Fast Saga. Today, the platform is adding more sponsored chat themes such as:
- Olivia Rodrigo’s whimsical album, Sour
- World Oceans Day exploration
Users simply need to go to the chat setting of Messenger or Instagram and take their pick.
Facebook rolls out new Messenger updates as of 10 June 2021.
Implications for Marketers:
The new updates on Facebook Messenger make it easier for users to facilitate direct transactions within the app. A direct in-app payment stream can help marketers boost conversion. While brands can utilize the new chat themes and quick replies to better connect to their target audiences.
