Voisey For Snapchat Looks to Expand Content Creation Across the App

Snapchat constantly seeks to expand the way users produce content across the app. That is why on 21 November 2020, it was announced that Snap has acquired Voisey, a U.K.-based startup where users can create short music or audio clips and videos. Musicians can also use the app to upload instrumental tracks and play around with the sound using different audio filters.

The app has been described as “TikTok for music creation”. It is still unclear what Snap plans to use Voisey for, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Voisey features added into the main application.

Snapchat has always been known to be ahead of the trends on social media, so this may indicate another upcoming trend. This is what TechCrunch had to say on the Voisey acquisition:

“That could see Snap expanding the kinds of services it provides to businesses, or expanding how people can interact using voice on its existing services, specifically its Spectacles, or both (or, again, something completely different).”

Implications for Marketers:

While it is still unknown what Snap plans to do with its newly acquired audio-based companies, it would do well for marketers to keep their eyes peeled for rising trends with regard to this aspect of content creation. It may present new opportunities for brands and businesses to connect with their target audiences.
