Twitter Welcomes New Crypto Team

As Twitter launched paid subscriptions, it needs to enhance its payment system. The platform enabled a tip jar, a tipping button allowing direct payments from Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal, Razorpay, and Venmo. Last October, the platform previewed NFT profile verification and profile image display. NFT stands for non-fungible token. It is a form of crypto goodies. Today, Twitter welcomes a new crypto team.

Twitter welcomes Tess Rinearson as Crypto Engineering Lead. Since 2015, the Berlin-based Crypto veteran has been working in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. Most recently, Tess worked with the Interchain Foundation and Chain.com. She will be working closely with Esther Crawford, Twitter’s Product Manager.

Twitter’s new Crypto team will focus on figuring out what crypto will best work on Twitter. Moving forward, the team will also explore ideas to decentralize managing virtual currencies and goodies.

Twitter welcomes its new crypto team on 10 November 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

There is still a long way to go for Twitter’s new crypto team. For marketers, this is a signal to prepare for a new form of payment in eCommerce. Brands have to wait and see its effect on boosting sales.
