Snapchat Spearheads the Obama Portraits Tour

Snapchat now focuses on improving augmented reality (AR). After celebrating its annual lens fest, the platform launched an AR Shopping Gallery. It also advanced its AR try-on through ComplexCon. Today Snapchat spearheads the Obama Portraits Tour.

In collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts (LACMA), Snapchat unveils the story of the Obama Family using AR technology. The Obama Portraits Tour commences from 07 November 2021 to 02 January 2022. It features curatorial tours, richly illustrated books, and teacher’s workshops.

Using AR lenses, Snapchat will let visitors discover the stories behind the following:

  • How Kehinde Wiley portrayed the former US President Barack Obama
  • How Amy Sherald portrayed the former First Lady Michelle Obama

These two portraits have become iconic to the public. The Obama Portraits Tour also features Catherine Opie as she depicted President Obama during his inauguration.

Snapchat spearheads the Obama Portraits Tour on 22 December 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

Snapchat’s collaboration with the Obama Portraits Tour is a special AR presentation that enhances conversation. It may be worth it for marketers to study such portraiture to learn how to potentially engage communities using Snapchat’s AR.
