Last March, Instagram beta-tested product tagging for everyone. With a new creator lab portal, Alexandru Voica, Comms manager at Meta demonstrated how to tag promoted products. It came with a promise of rolling out the update soon. Today, Instagram enables product tags for all users in the US.
Previously, product tags are only available o Instagram creators. Starting today, everybody in the US can use shopping tags on an Instagram post. Simply tap the tag people option after creating a post, search for the brand, and tap products. Tap the image where you want to add a product tag and hit share. Soon, Instagrammers can also add product tags on Reels and Stories.
Instagram enables product tags for all users in the US on 19 April 2022.
Implications for Marketers:
Product tags are a great way for marketers to expand the reach of their ads and campaigns. By having customers and followers tag their promoted product listing, they will surely create a buzz in the IG community and increase engagement and possibly sales.
