Messenger Rooms is finally on WhatsApp. This is part of Facebook’s full integration plan across its platforms. Facebook launched Messenger Rooms on 24 April 2020. They are joinable group video calls for up to 50 participants. On 13 May 2020, they linked it to group chats and events. They also made it available to Instagram on 22 May 2020, then added it to Portal last 16 June 2020.

The Indian Express announced on 01 August 2020 that users can now access Messenger Rooms on WhatsApp for desktop. First, a user must update the WhatsApp web version to Version 2.2031.4. One can create Messenger Rooms by clicking the three dots on the top left of the screen and choosing “Create a Room.”  It’s also included as an option for individual chats. Users also have the option to switch between accounts in creating Messenger Rooms. The host can control the room’s availability to participants. One can also schedule a Messenger Room.

Implications for Marketers:

Having Messenger Rooms on WhatsApp completes Facebook’s integration of the said feature among its family of apps. There are over 4 billion monthly active users of messaging apps. As such, it’s a good marketing opportunity. It is critical for marketers to develop strategies on the channel. They can use Messenger Rooms to launch a product, do a Q & A with influencers, or showcase a product line. Needless to say, Messenger marketing can greatly augment the sales side.
