Instagram received a lot of complaints about users reposting regular, static updates on Stories. As Facebook tested sharing Reels on its platform, Instagram tests reshared post labels. This to stop Instagrammers from sharing recycled content.
Whenever a story is reshared on Instagram’s main feed, users will see new labels depending on the origin of the post. Besides Sponsored Stories which indicate a story ad, Instagrammers will start seeing labels such as “Reshared post” or “Created with Reels.” Such an experiment is now being conducted on random users. You can check if your account is included by opening your Stories feeds and browsing if the new labels are present.
Instagram tests reshared post labels as of 19 March 2021.
Implications for Marketers:
Instagram’s new label is a different approach to combat recycling content. For marketers, this means focusing on creating new content for brands from time to time. Resharing may have a little impact on them. But it’s a clear sign that Instagram encourages everyone to share something new on personal accounts and business profiles.
