Instagram Gives a Facelift on Stories’ Desktop Layout

Instagram has gone a long way since it was launched in 2010. From a photo-sharing app, it has evolved to be a favorite among brands, influencers, and marketers. With 1 billion monthly active users, the platform has made a great impact on the buying journey of its users. Around 80% of Instagrammers decide whether to buy a product or service. What influences them most are Instagram Stories. There are 500 million Instagrammers using Stories daily, and a third of the most viewed stories are from businesses. Today, Instagram gives a facelift to Stories’ desktop layout.

The facelift Instagram is testing on Stories’ desktop layout will make it easier for users to browse them. A small group of Instagrammers will now see Stories appearing in carousel form instead of a single tile on an Instagram webpage. It will show multiple Stories from profiles a user follows on Instagram. Navigating Instagram Stories remains the same. Users just manually click the Instagram Story they want to view and it will automatically play. There is no official announcement from the platform yet as to when such a facelift will be available globally.

Implications for Marketers:

The new desktop layout of Instagram Stories aims to make it easier for users to browse them. For marketers, this means a larger exposure of Instagram Stories for desktop users. As such, they should aim to post Stories consistently on Instagram to create leads, engage with Instagrammers, and humanize a brand.
