Remember Facebook Reality Lab? This is the team that handles Facebook’s AR and VR innovations. They spearheaded the AR Glasses, AR Hat patent, and motion effects for photos. They are also the ones who created Oculus and Portal. Today, the FRL team is off for a new task as Facebook forms the Metaverse Project Group.
Andrew Bosworth, Facebook’s VP for AR/VR announces the formation of the Metaverse Project Group in his recent Facebook post. He defines Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of Metaverse as a collection of digital worlds allowing people to feel really being present in a physical space. In an effort to deliver this vision, Facebook Reality Labs forms the Metaverse Project Group. The members of the team include:
- Jason Rubin, Facebook’s VP of Play
- Vishal Shah, Instagram’s VP of Product
- Vivek Sharma, Facebook’s VP of Gaming
The Metaverse Project Group will focus on building Facebook’s virtual spaces through advanced social features, creator tools, virtual frameworks, and more.
