Facebook now has nearly 3 billion monthly active users. A 2022 review of social media platforms showed that it is still the king of social media. Yet today, Facebook experiments on 5 profiles per user. Its main goal is to encourage a more personal engagement and experience.
Currently, Meta is testing the functionality of allowing users to create up to 4 profiles using their Facebook account as a master profile. The test is currently available to selected users from the USA and other countries. Each profile may not include a person’s real identity or real name. A user can have one account for dating, family, friends, interests, profession, work, etc. For each account, they can create unique feeds. But they can only comment, like, or react to another post using the master account.
Facebook experiments on 5 profiles per user as of 15 July 2022.
Implications to Marketers:
Facebook multi-profiles can be a precursor to Meta’s 3D avatars, where users can create different images. For marketers, it means more data to segment target audiences.
