There are three key updates on WhatsApp’s privacy policy:

  • How WhatsApp processes your data
  • How businesses can use Facebook hosted services via WhatsApp
  • How WhatsApp integrates with Facebook Company Products

Such changes will take effect on 08 February 2021. This updated privacy policy of WhatsApp shows that information of an account can be shared across Facebook. These include a user’s contact number, interactions, IP address, transaction date, etc. The prompt gives users a choice whether to continue or discontinue using WhatsApp based on their updated privacy policy.

WhatsApp updates its privacy policy as of 06 January 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

WhatsApp updates its privacy policy to fall in line with the larger goal of Facebook. For marketers, Facebook’s move to integrate its policy of apps means an eCommerce push. Users will be able to use “Facebook Pay” to directly shop on either Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This gives brands an extra option to market in a messaging app like WhatsApp.
