Snapchat reported 319 million users in the last quarter of 2021. The platform is now ramping up on some major updates. It started with enabling midroll ads on Snap Stories, as the platform revealed the high impact of its ads options. Today, Snapchat will allow username change.
Starting on the 23rd of February, Snapchat will allow all its Android and iOS app users to change their username. It only applies once a year. So, after a Snap chatter changes a username, a prompt will appear reminding that a username can only be changed once a year. The username change will not impact other aspects of the account such as friend lists, memories, Snap codes, Snap scores, etc.
The platform notes that users cannot use an existing username in the app. To change a Snapchat username, simply click the Bitmoji icon on the top-left corner of the Snap camera. From the profile section, click username then click change username. Enter the new username and hit next to finalize the change.
Snapchat will allow username change effective 23 February 2022.
Implications for Marketers:
Changing a Snapchat username is a long-requested feature and has been under testing since October 2021. It can be an advantage for marketers to label brands and boost brand awareness.
