In May 2021, Pinterest launched idea pins. They are revamped story pins that allow a 20-frame video lasting up to 60-seconds. Idea pins can also be a highlight on a creator’s profile via a “created” tab, that does not disappear after 24 hours. Around 6 months after its launch, the platform tested sharing idea pins on Facebook and Instagram. Today, Pinterest enables sharing idea pins to other platforms.
Effective today, all pinners can now share published idea pins on other social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram. Shared idea pins will be downloaded as a watermarked video that stitches the frames together. The video finale of shared idea pins will show an end card displaying the creator’s name and username. Sharing is simple. Pinners only need to choose FB Stories or IG Stories on the share menu to initiate a download. They can also choose to share in Snapchat and TikTok.
Pinterest enables sharing idea pins to other platforms on 15 March 2021.
Implications for Marketers:
Sharing idea pins to other platforms can give Pinterest ads a greater push. As Pinterest idea pins are popular among users, they can allow brand discovery on other social media sites.
