Instagram is continuously expanding its tools and features to cater to the needs of digital businesses. Last 15 April 2020, it launched new stickers to help businesses. These are gift cards and food orders. It’s also testing out shop tabs since 07 July 2020. Today, Instagram rolls out donation stickers. The roll-out covers the United States, UK, and Ireland android users.
Since January 2020, Instagram has seen a large wave of fundraising for a cause. It even doubled in the last 30 days for COVID-19. As such, Instagram makes it easier by rolling out donation stickers. First, the user needs to create a fundraising option. There’s a need to enter Stripe information for the processing of payments. This means that a user must be at least 18 years old to be a fundraiser. It will then undergo a review process to ensure the eligibility of the cause. Once approved, the fundraising can last from 30 to 60 days. After the campaign, the funds will be credited to the designated bank account. Donation stickers can also be used during an Instagram live stream.
Instagram rolls out donation stickers as of 21 July 2020. The platform is making it available globally in the coming days.
Implications for Marketers:
Instagram donation stickers are new options not only for fundraising. Brands may want to use them to help a social cause. For marketers, it’s high time to plan a strategy using stickers and stories. In the long run, they may be a new tool for more business. Who knows, these stickers may kickstart digital payments.
