Instagram Previews Chronological Feed

Instagram made several changes to its feed this year. The platform is currently testing a vertical feed on the Explore tab while working on auto-captions. It merged IGTV and video feed into one. It also boosted the exposure of Reels to the main feed. Today, Instagram previews a chronological feed.

Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri announces the plan of bringing back chronological feed. Such an announcement was made through a senate hearing about the controversies on Instagram feed ranking. Mosseri said that despite making it impossible for Instagrammers to see posts they cared about via a chronological feed, Instagram will bring it back early next year to avoid public scrutiny.

Instagram’s new chronological feed will allow users to see posts from people they follow in chronological order. Users can choose a favorite or following feed to see posts from designated friends and pages.

Implications for Marketers:

Instagram’s chronological feed can be a great way for marketers to better reach their target audiences. This is by consistently posting creative content to rank on the latest feed from time to time.
