Instagram now focuses on improving its feed. It is currently testing a chronological feed, full-screen feed button, and immersive feeds. Today, Instagram launches new feed control tools.
Favorites
Adding an account as a favorite allows an Instagrammer to see more of its post on the feed. There are no suggested posts under the favorite list. So, it will be easy to catch up to a cap of 50 accounts under it. The easiest way to add an account under favorites is to tap the three-dot menu on a post and click “Add to Favorites.”
Followings
Followings is another feed control tool where users can see posts of accounts they followed in chronological order. It means seeing the latest posts first. Like favorites, there are no suggested posts under the followings. To add an account under followings, simply tap the Instagram logo on Home and choose “following.”
Sensitive Content Control
Everybody has different preferences. On Instagram, sensitive content means posts that may be upsetting to some users. That is why the platform enables sensitive content control on feeds. All a user needs to do is go to his profile, tap the settings menu, tap account and tap sensitive content control. From there, the user can choose how much sensitive content to see – more, standard, or less.
Suggested Posts
Instagram puts suggested posts under the Explore, Reels, and Shop tabs. These are a mix of posts that you might be interested to follow. The platform personalized such posts based on your interactions and interests. In case a user sees a post that is not interesting and does not want to see it again, the user can tap the three-dot menu on the post and choose “Not Interested.” The system then removes the post to the feed immediately and prevents it from showing again in the future. Instagram also allows snoozing suggested posts for 30 days by tapping the X on the top right corner and then tapping “snooze all suggested posts for 30 days.”
Instagram launches new feed control tools on 30 August 2022.
Implications to Marketers:
As Instagram launches new feed control tools, marketers should post visually appealing content to boost dwell time and interaction. They can also improve the platform’s algorithm as a guide to a better marketing strategy.
