After the controversial US Senate case citing Instagram as harmful to youngsters, the platform now bounces back to free up the algorithm in feeds. Last January, Instagram started testing 3 different types of feeds. These are the home feed, favorites, and following. After the platform opened Creator Lab, Instagram launches favorites and following.
Favorites and following are new ways to catch up with recent posts on Instagram. To change your Instagram feed, tap on Instagram at the top left corner of the homepage and choose either “favorites or following.”
Favorites
Under Favorites, an Instagram user will see the latest posts from the accounts you choose as most preferred. They can be your closest friends, desired creators, or family members. Instagrammers can add up to 50 accounts to the list. Posts from your favorites also show up higher in the home feed with a star icon.
Followings
Under following, Instagram users will see the latest posts from people they followed. The posts appear in chronological order, with Instagrammers seeing the most recent posts.
Instagram launches “favorites and following” on 23 March 2022.
Implications for Marketers:
Instagram’s favorites and following feeds are a better way to manage an IG timeline. For marketers, it means more aggressive ads and campaigns for target audiences to include brands in their favorites and following.
