As local searches surge, social media platforms have been finding ways to boost local SEO. Instagram, for one, has been testing live map searches. Just like Stories’ maps, they allow the discovery of shops nearby. Today, Instagram enables searchable maps.
Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announces the update via Instagram Stories. He said that Instagrammers can now discover popular local businesses nearby via a searchable map on IG. It will also allow them to filter the map per business category. Instagrammers can move the map around to look at what’s around the location. By tapping location tags, users will see the details, recent posts, and stories of a specific business. Users can even save them for future revisits.
Instagram enables searchable maps on 20 July 2022.
Implications to Marketers:
Instagram’s searchable maps can help marketers boost the discoverability of businesses nearby a searching Instagrammer. They can also increase local SEO ranking for updated Instagram business profiles.
