Google Adds Informational Panel on Search Results

Google is the most powerful search engine in the world. The platform continuously and consistently finds ways to provide accurate and reliable information. Recently, Google has been focusing on helping businesses boost their visibility on searches. It added an AR try-on feature and a direct messaging function to business accounts. It has also updated its local store listing. Recently, Google has added an informational panel on search results.

The new informational panel will be visible as “three dots” that show up at the top right corner of every search result. Clicking on the three dots will show information about the website sourced from Google and Wikipedia. It will also show whether the site is “HTTPS” enabled or not. An HTTPS URL means that the site is secure to browse online.

Google will be adding an informational panel on search results for all users in the US on 01 February 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

Google’s informational panel makes it easier for people to check what a website is all about. This gives them more confidence to click and navigate the website. For marketers, this calls for updating a brand or business’s website information and syncing it to Google listing. They may aim to show their creative stories to boost curiosity among users, and encourage them to know more about their brand.
