Twitter Tests “Convert to Professional” Profile Option

It was during Twitter Analyst Day when the platform announced its plan to create a new type of account for brands and businesses. Last March, it gave a preview of such a business account. By April, Twitter launched professional profiles. These are accounts with a business category, business information, and verification badge. They are initially available to a small pool of businesses in the US. Today, Twitter tests a “Convert to Professional” profile option.

Both reverse engineering expert, Jane Manchun Wong, and mobile developer, Alessandro Paluzzi, shared the update. Twitter’s “Convert to Professional” profile option involves three steps. The first is to get started switching to a professional profile. The second is selecting a category for your brand or business. The third is selecting between 2 account types – business or creator. The actual conversion does not push through because the option is still not yet officially rolled out. But once users have made the switch, they will need to fill up an “About tab” to maximize Twitter’s professional profile.

Implications for Marketers:

Twitter’s “Convert to Professional” profile option is a new way to differentiate the accounts of brands and businesses on the platform. For marketers, this can be a potential start of accessing business tools to better formulate a Twitter marketing strategy. With Twitter being determined to switch into an eCommerce platform, there are lots of opportunities among brands within the platform.
