Twitter Now Requires Advertisers to Pay for Account Verification

Twitter recently established a yearly payment option for Twitter Blue. Now, Twitter has announced a new policy that requires advertisers to pay a fee for account verification. This update aims to improve the platform’s overall ad quality and provide a more transparent verification process for advertisers.

According to Twitter, the new verification process will include a review of the advertiser’s identity and an evaluation of whether the account complies with Twitter’s policies. Advertisers will also need to provide additional information, such as a government-issued ID or a business license, to complete the verification process.

While Twitter’s verification process has always been free, this new policy requires advertisers to pay a fee of $99 to receive the coveted blue checkmark badge on their account. The fee is non-refundable, even if the account is not verified.

Twitter’s decision to charge for verification has received mixed reactions from advertisers. Some believe that it will help reduce the number of fraudulent accounts on the platform, while others feel that it’s an unnecessary expense for small businesses and individual creators.

Overall, Twitter’s new policy aims to provide a more secure and transparent advertising experience for both advertisers and users. While the fee for verification may be a barrier for some advertisers, it could ultimately improve the quality of advertising on the platform and make it a more trustworthy space for users.

Twitter requires advertisers to pay for account verification on 21 April 2023.

Implications to Marketers:

The new policy requiring advertisers to pay for verification on Twitter has the potential to improve ad quality and transparency, but it could also increase costs and lead to longer wait times. Marketers will need to consider these factors when deciding whether to pursue verification on the platform.
