Facebook data portability means transferring a user’s Facebook information to a different file destination or platform. Such a tool can be accessed by going to “Your Facebook Information” under your Facebook Setting and clicking “Transfer Your Information.” The tool was designed with privacy, security, and utility. Users will be asked to re-enter their password before the data transfer pushes through. The data transfer is encrypted for security purposes.

Today, Facebook expands its data portability tools by allowing users to transfer their notes and posts to Blogger, Google Docs, and WordPress.com. Information can be transferred following 6 steps:

  • Your Facebook Information” under your Facebook Setting
  • Select “Transfer a Copy of Your Information”
  • Enter your Facebook password
  • Choose the data type and destination
  • Log In to the service where you want to import
  • Select “Confirm Transfer”

Facebook expands its data portability tools on 19 April 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

Facebook’s expanded data portability tools make it easier for marketers to transfer their digital data into one folder or place. Especially now that Facebook Analytics is about to end by 30 June 2021, they won’t need much time to export the information they need. Moreover, data portability allows brands to bring their ads and content across multiple channels. As such, they can find better ways to boost brand awareness, conversion, discovery, and engagement.
