AR and VR are trending since 2020. Gaming and online shopping have given online users a different experience. That’s why social media networks focus on innovating with AR and VR. Facebook, for one, introduced the Oculus Quest last September 2018. They are headsets used for VR gaming. Today, Facebook tests new features on Oculus Quest. Facebook’s Q4 of 2020 on “Other Revenues” increased more than twice compared to 2019. CFO Davide Wehner accounted for such an increase from the strong sales of Oculus Quest over the holidays.

To boost further growth, Facebook now supports multiple account users on Oculus Quest. Users can now share their devices with colleagues, family, and friends. The initial user who set up the headset will be an admin account. The admin account can now add up to 3 more users on Oculus Quest. Anyone who logs in to his or her own account will maintain their browsing history, friend lists, game progress, and privacy settings. Please note that users can only use a Facebook account once as an admin account. They can still log in to other Oculus Quest headsets as a secondary account but not as admin. Facebook has also integrated Messenger with Oculus Quest accounts. Users can now chat via Messenger while engaging in the VR environment. Facebook noted that the next stage of this development is multi-account support.
Facebook tests new features on Oculus Quest as of 18 February 2021.
Implications for Marketers:
The new features of Oculus Quest can boost the usage of these VR devices. For marketers, the new features may open up a range of considerations and opportunities for social interaction. Each Oculus Quest user login into the app via their Facebook accounts. So, it’s highly possible that sooner, brands will be allowed to market in such a VR environment.
