Facebook Invests on the Apricot Subsea Cable Project - Social Stand

Facebook Invests on the Apricot Subsea Cable Project

One of Facebook’s goals is to link the world through fast internet connections. As such, the platform focuses on investing in subsea cables within the Asia Pacific region this year. Last March, Facebook took a step to initiate the first transpacific subsea cable – the BitFrost and Echo project. Today, Facebook invests in the “Apricot” subsea cable project.

Bifrost and Echo are two subsea cable projects that can boost internet capacity by 70% in Singapore and Indonesia. The project’s partners are Telin, XL Axiata, and Keppel. Apricot is a state-of-the-art optic cable with a length of around 12,000 kilometers. It aims to provide a flexible and gridless bandwidth in Guam, Japan, the Philippines, and Taiwan. With its expected completion in 2024, it can provide 190 terabits per second of internet connection.

Facebook invests in the “Apricot” subsea cable project as of 16 August 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

Facebook’s “Apricot” subsea cable project, together with BitFrost and Echo, is a significant move to boost internet connectivity in the Asia Pacific region. For marketers, this can benefit their business interests. With 3.5 billion social media users coming from the said region, it will definitely boost reach and conversion.
