Facebook Releases XLS-R, a Universal Language Translator

The main goal of Facebook is to connect everyone to the world. Every day, the platform translates 20 billion of content. Facebook also helps users talk to each other using language translation. Last October, the platform introduced the M2M-100. It is a multilingual AI translator that can pair up to 100 languages. Today, Facebook releases XLS-R, a universal language translator.

XLS-R is a self-supervised language translator that can pair up to 128 languages all over the world. It can also perform language identification, speech recognition, and voice translation. It is ten times better than the M2M-100.
