Facebook Launches DINO for Image Identification

Pinterest should watch out! Facebook launches DINO for image identification. This breakthrough is like Pinterest’s image identification technology. It has long been a unique factor why searchers visit Pinterest. But with DINO, there’s a chance of pinners switching to Facebook.

Facebook collaborates with INRIA to develop the DINO technology. It is a combined innovation of self-supervised learning and Vision Transformers (ViT). Using such technologies, Facebook’s AI can learn from random unlabeled images and selectively focus on an image within a frame. Facebook’s AI can then segment the image and identify them. Segmenting can also be done within video frames.

Facebook launches DINO for image identification on 30 April 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

Facebook’s DINO opens doors to understanding images and video deeply. This can provide new options for tagging products on related image and video ads. For marketers, this can boost advertising opportunities on Facebook. By automating product tags, Facebook posts can help brands be discovered by its 2.85 billion monthly active users.
