Facebook Adds New Monetization Tools for Gaming Creators

Here’s something to watch out for gaming creators! Facebook adds new monetization tools. It’s a new feature to earn extra revenue for gaming videos on demand. Last year, the platform reported a billion hours of views for Facebook gaming. That is why Facebook continues to build its presence in the gaming community.

Facebook Gaming Stars

Expansion of Facebook Stars to VOD

First off, Facebook is expanding the use of Stars for video on demand (VOD) content among gaming creators. Stars are virtual gifts that Facebook followers can buy and send to creators. For every star, a creator gets $0.01 from Facebook. Stars for gaming VOD is currently in pilot testing with a small group of selected gaming creators. The platform is also looking to use discounted Stars packages for gaming.

Live Breaks

Facebook also introduces a new form of mid-roll ads for gaming creators. These are called “Live Breaks.” They are a mixture of creator-generated or user-generated content plus a standard mid-roll ad. They are manually triggered and last for either 30-second, 90-second, or 150-second long.  Through live breaks, gaming creators can highlight amazing plays and curated call-to-actions (CTAs). CTAs can include fan subscriptions, joining FB groups, Stars, etc. Again, such a feature is in pilot testing with a small group of selected gaming creators.

Level Up Program

Facebook is now also expanding the “level up program” to the following countries:

  • Hong Kong
  • Kenya
  • Nigeria
  • Norway
  • Paraguay
  • Sri Lanka
  • Switzerland
  • Ukraine
  • Venezuela

The “level up program” is the 1st step to the path of being a Facebook gaming creator. By signing up, gaming streamers can beta access the new features and tools of Facebook gaming and receive customized support from the platform. Only gaming creators under the “level up program” can access Stars and fan subscriptions.

Facebook added new monetization tools for gaming creators on 26 May 2021.

Implications for Marketers:

The new monetization tools for gaming creators on Facebook can help creators earn extra revenue through videos on demand. For marketers, they can grab the opportunity to highlight relevant products and services through mid-roll ads. Brands associated with gaming have the potential to boost revenues through these ads.
