AR and VR are Facebook’s main focus these days. As it plans to rebrand its company name, it launched AR glasses. AR/VR tools, and a $100 million Creator VR fund. During Facebook Connect 2020, the platform announced expanding AR/VR development in Messenger and Portal. Today, Facebook adds AR effects on Messenger.
Messenger’s new AR effects include “Group Effects” on video calls. Any participant of a video chat on Messenger can use 70 AR overlays to liven the engagement. It also allows multi-gaming options like guessing games or interactive plays. The Facebook Spark AR team brings all of these updates. To access them, simply tap the smiley icon within a Messenger video call.
Facebook adds AR effects on Messenger as of 21 October 2021.
Implications for Marketers:
Messenger AR effects on group chats are fun and immersive ways to connect with family and friends. For marketers, they can be a more authentic way to humanize marketing on Messenger.
